People who cannot imagine their life without Bulldogs agree there are advantages, however, there are a few disadvantages in owning the breed as well. Bulldog lovers state that the breed never grows up. These dogs are very affectionate with the family and are like children. They thrive on a lot of attention and need to be around the owner.

These dogs need assistance very often, as they are prone to a lot of conditions especially the English Bulldog. This breed has breathing difficulties due to the muzzle structure and can overheat easily in hot weather. Therefore, Bulldog owners should supply their dogs with shade and fresh water.

Besides breathing difficulties, the breed may suffer from elongated soft palate, small trachea, allergies, dermatitis, demodectic mange, eye lid anomalies, hip dysplasia and heart problems. Hence, future Bulldog owners should be prepared to devote much time to canine health care.

Generally, these dogs do not require a lot of care. They have moderate exercise needs and need little grooming. However, the breed does drool. These dogs are intelligent and like to please the owner. They will readily perform all the commands the owner wants them to do. Therefore, if you take time to obtain breed education, carefully choose a puppy, and spend some time on training your Bulldogs, you are sure to raise wonderful companions and devoted friends.
