These dogs are very sensitive to extreme temperatures. They should be kept indoors only, as they are not adapted to cold and overheating. Leaving a dog of this breed locked in a car without conditioning can be lethal. Never over feed a dog of this breed, because excessive weight puts more pressure on the bones and joints, which can lead to injuries.

They are generally healthy, yet some bloodlines may suffer from inherited conditions. Ask for health certificates and try to see both the sire and the dam. This breed is an average shedder and has moderate grooming requirements. It is recommended to brush the dog regularly to remove dead hair and provide for a shining coat. Bathe the dog when it is necessary or use dry shampoo.
